Our Story

Treat yourself to the exquisitely Sardhar Darbargudh & Museum, a luxurious heritage hotel in Sardhar blending royal charm with modern elegance.

Sardhar traces its origin back to 1092 CE, during the rule of the Chalukya Dynasty, under Raja Jayasimha Siddharajsinh Solanki. Sardhar was established as one of the many military outposts of his kingdom. In 1300, the region came under the rule of the Vaghela Dynasty, an offshoot of the Solankis, while also falling under the influence of successive powers like the Delhi Sultanate, Khilji, Tughlaq, and Mughal rulers. In 1608, Kumar Shri Vibhaji Jadeja, grandson of Jam Sataji and younger brother of Rajkumar Lakhaji of Navanagar (Jamnagar), defeated the Vaghela Chief and became the Thakore of Sardhar. He was granted a Sanad (royal authority) to rule the Sardhar Parganas by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir and, in addition, expanded his domain by conquering 600 surrounding villages. Thakore Saheb Vibhaji's lineage came to be known as the Vibhani Vansh, with Sardhar serving as the capital of their dynasty. He later shifted and established his governing capital in Rajkot, located 30 kilometers from Sardhar. The remnants of the Darbargadh (royal palace) stand as a testament to the region's rich history. The royal family resided in Sardhar until the 17th century, Thakore Saheb Mehramanji III was the last to reside in Sardhar, with later rulers visiting on occasion. The palace, now turned as a museum, showcases exhibits, including artifacts, weapons, manuscripts, and royal regalia, offering a fascinating glimpse into royal life. Set by a serene lake, the palace’s majestic structure is reflected in the tranquil waters, blending history and nature in perfect harmony.
